LEAD PARTNER

Centrum Kształcenia Ustawicznego w Białymstoku - Poland

The Centre for Continuing Education in Bialystok (CKU) - was established in 2005 as the first public school for adults in
Podlaskie voivodship (CKU has about 500 students, and employs about 60 teachers + 20 staff). The CKU provides the opportunity for gaining and completing general education as well as professional skills and qualifications.
Types of education in the CKU:
Elementary School for Adults,
Comprehensive High School for Adults,
Post-secondary School,
Vocational Courses.
Since 2012 CKU has been offering a wide range of free vocational courses for students over 18 e.g.: agriculture, landscape architecture, floristry, IT, accounting, and photography.
CKU participates in various educational and cultural activities and projects in cooperation with local and international partners organizes seminars and training.
The CKU is a workplace of professional counsellors. The work of counsellors is direct to elementary and high school students, and adults, who search for their place in the job market.
The professional counsellors are also responsible for cooperation with employers and diagnosis of requirements of CKU's students.
In CKU also exist the Bialystok Academy of Family (BAR). Last year CKU was awarded the first prize in a national competition of Presidential Couple "Good Climate for Families" in the category of "conscious parenting" for the appointment and activities of the Bialystok Academy of Family. The main task of the challenges facing the BAR is widely understood
education and promotion of the family. The activities are aimed at all social groups: youth, spouses, parents, and grandparents. The tasks are realized by organizing lectures, seminars, and workshops, where experts take the issues concerning the family, education, and strengthening family relationships. CSU's team consists of people that truly understand the
problems of the family.
More than 30% of CKU's students come from the centre of our rural region. Other students are from the area of the city of Bialystok. The main target group of our learners are people of all ages who, for various reasons could not complete their education at the right time. Many of them are indigent people who were scared by the financial barrier of private schools. It was the direct cause of the noncompletion of secondary education.
The majority of students in the 25-50 age group are working people, desirous to qualify or to finish school, sometimes to pass the secondary school final exam to get the pay rise at their working places. Many of them are individuals who want to change something in their lives. Most young people are unemployed because of their level of education, some of them come from Chechnya, Belarus, and Ukraine.
CKU works in a disadvantaged area situated in the northeast part of Poland, with low financial resources and where the unemployment rate is very high. The economic situation of a large part of families in our region, especially those living in rural areas, does not allow the full development of individual and intellectual audiences, because they have difficulty with
access to sources of information. CKU is trying to do everything possible that they have access to cutting-edge sources of information as well as provide them with opportunities to develop their capabilities and skills.
As an adult education center (we are called second chance school) we are facing increasingly the problem of lack of understanding and lack of knowledge about the European culture among adult people from disadvantaged groups, who are our students. They do not have cultural awareness - we can say they don't understand European processes. Their self-esteem is very poor. They try to avoid situations when they have to present something in public. Students do not have enough motivation and self-confidence to work on self-development. The project will help to develop innovative, effective methods and cultural workshops program, which will help teachers to motivate adult learners.
We will take responsibility together with all partners in the development of the project. CKU will act as a coordinator.
